Cher Fr\u00e8re en J\u00e9sus-Christ,<\/p>\n

C\u2019est avec une profonde tristesse et une grande inqui\u00e9tude que nous suivons le d\u00e9veloppement de la guerre d\u00e9clench\u00e9e par la d\u00e9cision du gouvernement russe d\u2019envahir le territoire de l\u2019Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Une fois de plus, le pr\u00e9sident Poutine choisit d’utiliser la guerre en envahissant un pays ind\u00e9pendant en violation de toutes les r\u00e8gles internationales. Il devra en rendre compte de cette folie criminelle d’un autre \u00e2ge devant le Tribunal p\u00e9nal international.<\/p>\n

Nous voulons exprimer notre solidarit\u00e9 avec la population ukrainienne qui subit les cons\u00e9quences terribles de cette guerre et nous saluons et soutenons les Russes qui, aspirant \u00e0 la libert\u00e9, \u00e0 la d\u00e9mocratie et \u00e0 la paix, s\u2019opposent, avec courage et dans des conditions difficiles, \u00e0 cette politique guerri\u00e8re de leur gouvernement.<\/p>\n

La guerre ne peut jamais \u00eatre une solution. Elle n\u2019apporte que morts, destructions et souffrances.<\/p>\n

Un cessez-le-feu imm\u00e9diat, un retrait des troupes russes d\u2019Ukraine et un r\u00e8glement diplomatique de la situation au sein des organisations internationales et dans le respects du droit international sont la seule voie raisonnable vers une sortie de cette crise.<\/p>\n

Nous encourageons le gouvernement et le peule ukrainien \u00e0 la r\u00e9sistance civile non-violente face \u00e0 cette invasion et les militaires et la population russe, y compris les militaires, \u00e0 d\u00e9sob\u00e9ir aux ordres d\u2019un gouvernement qui s\u2019est engag\u00e9 dans des actions ill\u00e9gales et condamn\u00e9es par le droit international.<\/p>\n

Nous redisons notre solidarit\u00e9 avec les objecteurs de conscience en Russie et en Ukraine que nous d\u00e9fendons depuis des ann\u00e9es dans le cadre de l\u2019ONU \u00e0 Gen\u00e8ve.<\/p>\n

Pour nous chr\u00e9tiens, disciples de J\u00e9sus Christ, nous croyons que la guerre n\u2019est pas conforme \u00e0 l\u2019enseignement des \u00c9vangiles et ne peut jamais \u00eatre justifi\u00e9e au nom de la foi et de l\u2019enseignement chr\u00e9tiens. Comme le soulignait avec force et courage L\u00e9on Tolsto\u00ef, le commandement de l\u2019amour des ennemis nous oblige, nous chr\u00e9tiens, au refus de la violence et de la guerre.<\/p>\n

Cette guerre qui voit des chr\u00e9tiens orthodoxes agresser avec une violence inou\u00efe d\u2019autres chr\u00e9tiens orthodoxes, des chr\u00e9tiens d\u2019autres confessions et tous les habitants d\u2019un pays ind\u00e9pendant est un scandale aux yeux du monde entier. Seul le choix de la non-violence permettra \u00e0 la population russe et \u00e0 la population des pays voisins de vivre dans la justice, la paix et la confiance mutuelle.<\/p>\n

C\u2019est pourquoi vous appelons solennellement et fraternellement, au nom de notre foi commune dans le Sauveur, \u00e0 prendre position clairement et courageusement contre cette guerre et vous opposer avec votre autorit\u00e9 morale et religieuse qui est grande \u00e0 la politique meurtri\u00e8re du gouvernement russe.<\/p>\n

Paris, February 24th 2022<\/p>\n

Dear Brother in Jesus Christ,<\/p>\n

It is with deep sorrow and concern that we follow the development of the war triggered by the decision of the Russian government to invade the territory of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Once again, President Putin has chosen to use war by invading an independent country in violation of all international rules. He will be held accountable for this criminal folly of another age before the International Criminal Court.<\/p>\n

We want to express our solidarity with the Ukrainian people who are suffering the terrible consequences of this war and we salute and support the Russians who, aspiring to freedom, democracy and peace, are opposing, with courage and under difficult conditions, this warlike policy of their government.<\/p>\n

War can never be a solution. It only brings death, destruction and suffering.<\/p>\n

An immediate ceasefire, a withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine and a diplomatic settlement of the situation within international organisations and in accordance with international law is the only reasonable way out of this crisis.<\/p>\n

We encourage the government and people of Ukraine to engage in non-violent civil resistance to this invasion and the Russian population, including the military, to disobey the orders of their government that has engaged in illegal actions condemned by international law.<\/p>\n

We reiterate our solidarity with the conscientious objectors in Russia and in Ukraine, whom we have been defending for years in the framework of the UN in Geneva.<\/p>\n

For us Christians, followers of Jesus Christ, we believe that war is not in accordance with the teaching of the Gospels and can never be justified in the name of Christian faith and teaching. As Leo Tolstoy forcefully and courageously pointed out, the commandment to love one’s enemies obliges us Christians to reject violence and war.<\/p>\n

This war, in which Orthodox Christians attack other Orthodoxes, Christians of other denominations and all the inhabitants of an independent country with unprecedented violence, is a scandal in the eyes of the whole world. Only the choice of non-violence will allow the Russian population and the population of neighbouring countries to live in justice, peace and mutual trust.<\/p>\n

Therefore, we solemnly and fraternally appeal to you, in the name of our common faith in the Saviour, to take a clear and courageous stand against this war and to oppose with your great moral and religious authority the murderous policy of the Russian government.<\/p>\n

In the peace received from Christ, we ask you to accept the expression of our respectful greetings<\/p>\n
